Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were probably its most successful pieces in the smartphone era. With features that could compete with and outclass most other phones from rivals, Samsung made a strong statement of intent and a warning to the competitors in the mobile world.

But then, every phone has its demerits. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge’s biggest flaw is a non-removable battery, and with a battery capacity of these two being 2550 mAh and 2600 mAh, many people are wondering whether battery replacement in Galaxy S6 is possible.

As it turns out, it is!

Although Samsung has released an official battery change instructions within their manual, but that doesn’t really give you a proper idea of what exactly is involved. But then again, don’t you worry! Tools for Battery Replacement

Step 1:

Stating the obvious, first of all you need to shut down your Galaxy S6, and remove the sim card, using the Ejector Pin to do so.

Step 2:

Use the Heat Gun/Hair Dryer to heat one end of the S6 for about 1-2 mins (we start from the bottom), then use the Suction cup to pry up the battery door a little bit and insert the Plastic Pry Tool in. The battery door is adhered to the frame with some very strong adhesive hence; take your time during this step.

After the Plastic Pry Tool has been injected in, heat up the edges and then gently slide it around them to open the battery door.

Points to be careful about

  • Use heat, not strength if the battery door doesn’t open up.
  • Use a thin plastic pry tool instead of razor blade in order to avoid damaging the glass.

Step 3:

Loosen the 13 screws around the middle plate, following which heat up the front of the S6 to loosen the glue around the middle plate.

Open up the screen assembly a little bit with the help of a Suction Cup and thin Plastic Pry Tool, then slide the tool to separate the screen assembly.

Important note: A little strength can be applied to the back of the battery, but not too much, handle carefully and gently.

Step 4:

Disconnect the 6 connectors that hold the motherboard to release it. You can disconnect by using the ever-effective Plastic Pry Tool. (You will probably need to have a little knowledge of Electrical to do this)

Step 5:

Use the Metal Spudger tool and insert it very carefully into the gap between the battery and screen assembly to pry it up.

REMEMBER- As the battery is stuck to the fragile AMOLED display directly, you will need to be super careful with this one. Do not heat up the battery and do not bend the battery too much; patience is needed!

After these steps, you could replace the old battery with a new one, and reassemble the Samsung Galaxy S6 by going back the steps one by one.
