Mobile information leaker, Evan Blass has revealed a couple of months back that Samsung has been working on the S7 active version for quite some time. For the first time, we are seeing the handset in its full glory. The S7 active is coming to AT&T and will bear the model number SM-G891A. AT&T has always been exclusively selling the active variant of Samsung flagships like the S5 active and S6 active. This year wouldn’t be any different. This is evident from the AT&T logo below the main camera module in the leaked pictures.
The leaks come out of Vietnam and show clear shots of the handset.
For the first time in the active series, a fingerprint reader will make its debut. The pictures clearly show an oval centre button along with the back and menu button. The centre button will house the fingerprint reader for added security and I presume the phone will now be compatible with Samsung Pay.
The overall design of the phone is pretty similar to the predecessors. The back camo cover gives a distinctive feel and makes the phone stand apart from a sea of similar looking devices. Samsung has also incorporated military standard toughness along with the IP68 rating for water and dust resistant to withstand strenuous conditions.
As far as the specs are considered, they are pretty similar to the regular S7. A big battery, Snapdragon 820, the same 13 MP excellent camera, 4 GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. Although I am sceptical about the expandable memory, it would be a nice addition.
I owned the Galaxy S6 active and loved the phone before losing it. I am not a creature who desires top of the line specs but I like my phone to be simple yet effective. I hated phone cases since the dawn of the smartphone era and S6 active didn’t need one. this appealed to me the most.
With the addition of the fingerprint reader, the S7 active looks like a phone that could match the reputation of the S7 even though it lacks in the looks department.
