Last Thursday Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ in the US. Apart from the unveiling of these new smartphones the South Korean giant also demonstrated its new mobile payment service, Samsung Pay.

Now Apple Pay may have reached the market before Samsung Pay with the iPhone 6 but the Samsung Pay has one advantage. In addition to near-field communication (NFC) connectivity, Samsung’s new devices are employing a new technology called ‘Magnetic Secure Transmission’.

This technology basically allows the mobile payment system to be used on standard credit card machines. Apple Pay on the other hand only uses NFC connectivity.

Users had known this advantage of the Samsung Pay since the company made its first announcement in March but the Unpacked event on Thursday marked the first demonstration.

The users just have to swipe up on the screen, select a card and then insert their PIN or fingerprint to authenticate. After this the users have to wave their device over the credit card reader and that’s it.
