Samsung has always been about innovation although some people might argue otherwise. Its next big focus area, apart from the Samsung pay and virtual reality, is the next generation of the wireless network, the 5G network. It’s so crazy fast that when compared a standard LTE connection, it is 100 times fast. If I had such as connection right now, I wouldn’t even know what to do with all that speed.
And Samsung wants to get their first. It wants to be the pioneer of the technology and has started trials recently. With the promising results, it has put the tests on fast tracks so that they would be ready for full deployment as soon as possible.
Gregory Lee, president and CEO of Samsung North America has mentioned that the speed of the network was incredible and something he hasn’t seen in his lifetime. A theoretical top speed of 10GBps is possible with this network. He mentioned that with the network speed, you will be able to do the following things.
- Download a movie in three seconds
- Have every device in your home connected, including things like your fridge and other appliances
- Allow doctors to guide each other through a remote-surgery procedure
- Let a jazz band play together remotely, creating real music in real time
The beauty of 5G is that it is compatible with all the existing wireless network technologies such as the 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi. You won’t have to upgrade the devices to take full advantage of the network. But the bad news is that the phones that you hold will not be compatible and you will have to buy a new one with the 5G modems in them.
“We plan to move quickly and want to be at least among the top three with 5G,” Kim Young-ky, Samsung’s network business chief, told Reuters in an interview.
