Evan Blass, the tech expert who leaked information about several devices before they were intended to be shown to the world yet again gave us a glimpse of an unreleased, upcoming device, Samsung’s galaxy J1. Yes, the next generation J1 is being readied for launch and the leaked press images gives us a clear view of the device as well as some design changes that Samsung opted for.
Samsung phones have stayed more or less the same over the years except for a few changes like the active series or the edge series. The low end galaxy J1 is undeniably a Samsung device but the bezel seems to have changed. The Korean giant has instead put a black bezel around the screen that extends to the top camera and earpiece. The entire bezel isn’t black but a part of it is and this definitely give a nice look to the galaxy J1.
Apart from that, everything in the device is ordinary. The screen is surprisingly an LCD and not an AMOLED display that Samsung usually fits its phones with. The CPU is the Exynos 3457 soc coupled with mali-720 GPU. 1 GB of ram is available. A 5 MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera are somewhat disappointing. The version of android is 5.1.1.
The screen size has increased slightly from 4.3 inches to 4.5 inches but the resolution will remain at 800×480. The capacitive touch buttons are not backlit.
This device is not compatible with Samsung’s own mobile payment service, Samsung pay and I doubt if it supports Samsung Knox, the data protection service for business and military personals.
This phone is for people who are on tight budget and will be available in gold, white and black colours. Samsung is yet to announce the existence of the galaxy J1. In other news, the galaxy j5 is also getting a refreshed version.
