Samsung isn’t making as many phones as before. If figures are to be believed, it launched 30% less phone models in 2015 when compared to 2014. it has a lot of interesting phones apart from the galaxy s6, note 5 and the edge variant of these flagships. The past month saw the introduction of the next generation of the A-series phones and I instantly felt a liking for the galaxy A5. Here are the reasons why.

The first thing that you will notice in the galaxy A5 is the beautiful metal body. Power on the device and the colours pops into life on the AMOLED display. Samsung is known for making beautiful displays and that is evident in the phone. The galaxy A5 has 3 more siblings. The galaxy A3, A7 and The A9. All these phones are similar in specs and vary in display size except for the a3 that is slightly underpowered.

The flagships such as the note 5 and the s6 are too expensive for my wallet yet I do know that the smartphone world has evolved in such a way that you can have a premium experience for a non-premium price in the present day.

The galaxy A5 retails for $420 but the street price should be around $350. That is a manageable amount for students and the young crowd. Interestingly, high end features such as a killer screen, a beautiful metal body and snappy performance are present here too. Just that they are not as cutting edge as the premium phones but not everyone uses their phone to the extreme.

I was surprised to see the fingerprint sensor in this device and later got to know that the galaxy A5 is Samsung pay enabled and also supports Samsung Knox, the data security service from Samsung that is used by military and business personals.

Sure, other galaxy phones also have them but the flagships are too expensive in this age. The Galaxy A7 and A9 are too big for me. 5.2-inch screen is perfect for portability and one hand handling since the bezels are considerably shortened. The A3 is too small and some of the important features such as the fingerprint reader are missing.

These were enough for me to buy the galaxy A5 and I am more than happy with the phone. I do wish Samsung would update it to android marshmallow though.
