Samsung has introduced the 2016 versions of the Galaxy J5 and J7 phones in china last month and now it is bringing these phone to its home country, south Korea. The price of the devices are at KRW 290,000 for the J5 and KRW 363,000 for the J7.
These are some excellent device with the mid-range specification but they offer nothing new and you can buy better phone such as the one plus 2 or the moto x play for the same cash. The saving grace, according to me, is the metal frame that gives a premium feel while holding the phones. similar to the galaxy S7, the phones come in black and gold options. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t mentioned when the phones will arrive in countries like united states and India where it can sell boatloads of these.
These phones are successors to the last year’s J5 and J7 which were also passable phones that had a hard time differentiating themselves from a sea of similar looking and functioning phones. I am disappointed with the successors and feel Samsung could have done much better by including wireless fast charging and Samsung Pay (the mobile payment service requires a fingerprint sensor for authorizing a transaction which I feel should also be in the smartphone, at least in the J7).
Samsung has mentioned that it has included a decent camera in the phone with a 13 MP sensor having f1.9 aperture and LED flash. front facing camera is at 5 MP and is good enough to take pretty selfies. The phones are 4G LTE enabled.
One thing I like in these phones are that they run on Android Marshmallow instead of Android 5.1.1 as is the norm with Samsung phones. the specifications are as follows.
