Samsung Pay, the blockbuster mobile payment service from Samsung that trumped the likes of Apple pay and Android pay has added a new feature to its already heavy arsenal. Samsung has announced that the Samsung Pay enabled phones will now be able to withdraw cash from ATM without any debit or ATM card. There is a catch, though. This service is currently available only in south Korea but will come to countries such as Australia, Spain, Canada, Singapore, and brazil later this year.

Residents of south Korean will be able to withdraw cash without any debit card from now on. Only Woori bank customers can use this feature with support for other banks in the pipeline. Samsung Pay also supports gift cards and membership cards that can also redeem points and benefits.

Not only that, Samsung Pay can be used to pay for online shopping, in-app purchases without leaving the screen and on transit without ever touching your credit or debit card.

This payment service is available in the Galaxy S6 family, S7 family, Note 5 and 2016 version of Galaxy A-series phones.

But this ability to withdraw cash could prove decisive in the mobile payment war. Apple is already the established player with limited loyalty but Samsung pay has virtually no restriction on it. It can be used anywhere if you have the supported card and without the need for any special hardware. This, to a large extent, has made this payment service more popular among the tech crowd than rival services.

Samsung has announced that within a short span of time, Samsung Pay will evolve into the “go-to” payment service that can replace your wallet and make a financial transaction simpler and safer.

I remember seeing similar ATM machines in Japan 25 years ago, of course without the phone thing. But they were lightyears ahead of the USA. You could deposit and withdrawal cash in the same transaction. With instant credit to your account. it would be more than 20 years until this feature was introduced in the U.S. Using a phone to get money from an ATM will take ANOTHER 20 YEARS before it’s available here in the united states.
