It’s less than one month before the Note 7 will be shown to the world and we are seeing increased number of leaks about the handset. Some of them are the benchmarking details while other details emerge from Samsung itself. The Note 7, as the leak suggest, will have internals that will be disappointing to many. But the focus this year seems to be on services and overall user experience rather than the cutting Edge specs.

An increasing number of rumors are pointing out that the phablet will have 4GB of RAM instead of the speculated 6 GB. If this rumor is true, then Samsung might have a big problem on hand. The Note series phones have traditionally been the pinnacle of the specs and benchmarks. But a number of phones from the Chinese makers such as one plus 3 have been sporting 6 GB of RAM. So what’s the deal?

I agree that 4GB of RAM is very less compared to 6 GB but this is a mobile phone we are talking about. Samsung must have taken this step after considering many details and I agree that 6 GB of RAM on a smartphone is an overkill given the state android ecosystem is in right now. Not many apps will make use of the entire amount of available RAM. Some of you might argue that this RAM will make the phone future proof and will enable the phone to run heavy apps down the road for 4 years flawlessly. But this is a tradeoff that might prove costly. 6 GB of RAM will drain the battery significantly and will make the phone user a wall hugger.

This is evident from the Oneplus 3 phone that has 6 GB of RAM but was still beaten by the S7 Edge which sports 4 GB memory.
