After getting teased a lot, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic edition went on sale yesterday and what surprised everyone is the price tag. Since Samsung is an official partner for the mega games event that will be held soon in Rio, has made a special variant of its flagship phone to commemorate the games. Samsung has also mentioned that it will be handing over the phone to the 12,500 Olympians who will be participating in the games.
The limited edition phone will also be available to the general public but the number of units are limited to 2016 and will cost $850 each. That a good $100 premium over an already expensive phone. Everyone who is a loyal Olympic fan might be interested in the phone but Samsung isn’t adding much over the regular Galaxy S7 Edge.
The phone comes in an all-black color with a special engraving of the Olympic rings on the back. In fact, Samsung has put in the color accents of the rings all over the phone. The earpiece and the home button bezel are in gold color. The power button is dipped in gold and the volume rocker in green. The camera bezel has a hint of blue in it so that all the Olympic colors are present on the phone.
Apart from that, Samsung has put in some software tweaks such as custom sounds, wallpapers, and icons to match the Olympic games. The entire user interface now looks like an Olympic banner. Samsung is also including a special Olympic carry bag in case you want to travel with your phone.
I am slightly disappointed that there is no mention of the Gear VR since Samsung has promised to live stream some games event in virtual reality. The batman edition of the S7 had a similar price tag and came with the Gear VR.
The phones are very limited in numbers and you might want to hurry to the BestBuy online store if you want one.
