Samsung has been struggling with its home-grown operating system from its infancy level. It is no secret that the Tizen operating system is pretty much a flop and barely made a dent against Android and iOS. but it seems Samsung is not the one to give up so easily as it prepares the next major version of the Tizen OS which it says, can power almost any smart device like smartphones, tablets, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) devices, smart TVs, PCs, smart cameras, wearable computing (such as smartwatches), Blu-ray players, printers and smart home appliances as well. This version of the OS will be called as Tizen 3.0 and it will be unveiled in September, most likely during the IFA 2016 in Berlin.

To make it more alluring, Samsung has made the OS open source from the start but the lack of apps is killing Tizen. The Galaxy maker is hell bent on making the OS viable and has already invested millions in the developer community resulting in thousands of apps being launched in the app store and Tizen becoming the fourth most popular mobile OS just behind Microsoft’s windows mobile.

The newest version will be based on 64-bit architecture so that it can work with ARM and x86-based processors. Samsung is also cooking up it Vulkan APIs, a platform that uses fewer resources but produces console level graphics within the mobile space.

Tizen 3.0 also gains the compatibility of 4K resolution enabling it to be used on ultra-HD TVs with smart features.

This software will be first available on the upcoming Gear S3 and also a smartphone called as Samsung Z5. Previous generation devices such as the Z1 and Z3 are also touted to get it via OTA update.
