It’s been five years and there seems to be no end to this patent war that has been raging between the two tech titans of the world,Apple, and Samsung. The patent war that started in 2011 when apple sued Samsung for infringing on its designs has been bouncing off different courtrooms around the globe finally reached a decision where apple was awarded half a billion dollars.
Now the justice department of the united states has requested the supreme court to overturn the judgement that was ruled in favor of apple and review the damages. The case will now return to the trial court once more. It also mentioned that the current trend could encourage the patent trolls to sue about every company which would ultimately kill the innovations from the small companies and start-ups who lack the resources to defend themselves in the courtroom.
“We welcome the overwhelming support for overturning the ruling in favor of Apple, including from leading patent experts, numerous concerned companies, and the U.S. government,” a Samsung spokeswoman said on Thursday. She added that the current appeals court judgment would lead to “diminished innovation” and “negatively impact the economy and consumers.”
“If left uncorrected the appeals court’s ruling could lead to diminished innovation, pave the way for design troll patent litigation and negatively impact the economy and consumers.” it added
Apple issued a statement that it was disappointed with the decision and plans to fight till appropriate justice is meted out for its products and the company on the whole.
