Samsung is all excited about the 360 virtual reality world. so is twitter and NBA. Naturally, these companies and the sports authority have decided to collaborate and bring the 360-degree content of the NBA games to twitter. Samsung will be making use of the Gear 360 camera to shoot the content while twitter will provide the content on the NBA’s official account.
Expect content like “pregame warm-ups, hallway/tunnels right before teams take the floor and post-game celebrations,” according to a representative for Samsung.
But the video isn’t live feed but rather the recorded highlights of the game. All the games will have the official 360-degree content soon after the game ends. Twitter has recently allowed the 360-degree content on its app to its users since the technology is booming.
NBA is one sports authority that is always searching for the next big thing in sports technology and has been searching for a suitable 360-degree content partner since last year. It now allows the live 360-degree streaming via the NextVR app.
This move is very important for twitter who has been losing its users to the other social network giant, Facebook. It was also recently reported that snapchat has overtaken twitter in terms of daily users. in such desperate time, there is the need for desperate measures and twitter seems to be on the right track by embracing the future before others have a chance.
If this 360-degree offering goes as anticipated, then twitter is sure to jump on the VR bandwagon as Facebook and will offer other exclusive content.
As far as the Gear 360 is concerned, it a small camera that is the size of a baseball and has the ability to shoot high-resolution 360-degree videos and photos. It uses dual 178-degree cameras that face opposite direction. They record content simultaneously and later stitched together to form the 360-degree media.
