The Associated Press reported that a Galaxy J5 owner witnessed her phone catching fire. By the way she tells it, it sounds like it caught fire in a way that is very similar to what was seen with the Note 7. But, let’s not jump to conclusions.
Apparently, when she took the device back from her four-year-old son, she found it to be very hot. Then she realized that the phone had swollen up and started emitting smoke. When she threw it away, it caught fire and blew the back off.
Although it might sound familiar, there are countless variables that can lead to this. If one caught fire, it doesn’t mean that the Note 7 scenario will repeat. First Samsung has to comment on this latest incident. Then we should see other things like was the charger genuine, has it been subjected to external pressure beyond what it can withstand or even whether it was repaired at some point and the job wasn’t done right.
Let’s also add that the phone was purchased from an online store, offering discounts. It is unclear if the device was sourced from an authorized Samsung retailer because it wasn’t bought directly from Samsung.
Oh, and yes… The owner plans to sue Samsung over this incident. Those lawsuits are just piling up on Samsung.
