Samsung has a lot riding on “the next big thing” because of the unprecedented quality control fiasco. Beside that, you also have to consider the popularity and excellence of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, so obviously, the Galaxy S8 has to be a step forward.
It is expected from Samsung to strike balance between legacy and a new eye-catching redesign. This redesign could mean that the device will have almost entire front side filled with display and little to no bezels. According to a Samsung Display engineer, phones with over 99percent display area ratio are still a few years away.
On the other side, Park Won-sang claims “Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio reaches more than 90 percent next year”. Maybe this is meant for the Galaxy S8, or maybe for the Note 8 because of the relocation of the fingerprint sensor. Time will tell.
