Some time ago, every innovation was connected to software. Now, it’s everything about the chips used in our devices.
The race for more performance and efficiency is already underway and now Samsung want’s to ramp things up.
Samsung Electronics Co. is expected to use its new 20-nanometer or finer architecture to make DRAMs for its devices from Q2 2017. This finer architecture will improve the performance of the chip by getting the chip components closer together to lower the data time spent on transfers. This will also consume less electricity, thus making them more efficient.
ADRAMeXchanged said that about 94 percent of the chips produced by Samsung during Q4 of this year, use 20-nanometer architecture.
On October 20th, Samsung said that it had rolled out the semiconductor industry’s first 8-gigabyte mobile DRAM package for smartphones. This package was based on an advanced 10-nanometer production architecture.
