Tizen operating system, that was developed as a competitor to android and ios, has been pretty much dead on arrival. Nobody wanted the phones and developers are virtually absent from the scenario. But Samsung found a rare hope in the form of Indian sales for the tizen powered phones. The low price and mid-range specs ensure the popularity of the phone.
And now Samsung is preparing a master plan for the tizen operating system to take off. It is building a smartphone called a Samsung Z2. Do not confuse the phone with the high-end android phone, Xperia Z2. The Samsung Z2 will reportedly come with a 4 inch 480×800 pixels resolution display. Many of the features and specs are upgraded since the launch of the Z1. Samsung might put a price tag of around $50 on the phone given the dire situation tizen is in. even though the phone is dead cheap, it is a superior phone when compared to the Z1 and the lack of apps won’t be a concern to the buyers as the basic apps are already available on the platform. Yet Samsung has roped in some developers to build exclusive apps for the platform and it would come to fruition after a year.
“It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Speedtrum SC7727S processor, runs on home-made Tizen operating system, comes packed with a 4GB internal memory, expandable up to 64GB via microSD card and a 768MB RAM, mounts a 3.15MP main camera with LED flash, Geo-tagging and face detection features and a VGA front-snapper, and houses a 1,500mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, A2DP, GPS and microUSB v2.0.” reported ibtimes.
The master plan is to build the user base from grounds up and slowly release expensive models on the platform simultaneously increasing the number of apps in the store.
This is a wise decision from Samsung given the fact that tizen already powers several smartwatches, fridges, and televisions from the company.
