Samsung does some weird things and waffle is one of them. This is a social networking app that Samsung wants you to use. While waffle is not as compelling as Facebook, the social network has some tricks up its sleeves.
The aim of this app is to uniquely “express yourself with photos and doodles”. This does not stop here. Your friends can actually develop another image and add to yours, similar to commenting on Facebook but with photos and doodles. This post goes on like a story. This is certainly an interesting concept but I doubt if it ever catches on with the users.
“Waffle, a new content-sharing application, hopes to change that. Boasting a user interface that resembles the grids on a waffle (hence the name), the app enables users to create a new feed of expandable content. They can also add to existing related content, as if contributing to a communal graffiti wall.
For example, a travel enthusiast might start a feed with a photograph taken on her latest trip to Tokyo. Then, others might add, say, a digital doodle of a sumo wrestler, a quote about traveling or an image of some beautifully plated sushi. In this way, Waffle offers a new, differentiated service that illustrates multiple points of view to generate a collaborative story.” Samsung mentions in its post.
The app is currently in the beta stage and is intended only for Samsung users. but experts have pointed out that the same thing can be done with the existing social networking apps and just repackaging similar functionality won’t be enough to convince the user to use this service.
Samsung itself isn’t very sure about the idea. A spokesperson has informed that this is an experimental project from Samsung and if enough promise isn’t shown once it exits the beta stage, it would shelf the app and the whole idea.
