Yes, we have heard the rumours of Samsung launching a smartphone with foldable display but the Korean conglomerate has now applied for a patent where a projector is built into the foldable display.
past leaks have indicated that Samsung is working on a phone with a foldable display secretly. There isn’t any smoke without the fire and we certainly believe that this phone will show itself sooner than later. It was also widely circulated that the galaxy s7 edge will have a foldable display where the phone can be folded like a booklet and opening it will reveal a big AMOLED display.
Now the patent filing from Samsung shows the it has a concept that will include the projector into this display. According to the patent pictures, the display will fold around a hinge that will prevent itself from pressing on the screen in a harsh manner that will destroy the phone entirely. And built into this hinge is the projector.
The use of the projector is currently unknown but Lenovo has shown a concept where the projector will project a keyboard that will be used to input the information. if this is true, then I would imagine Samsung would make a device that is as big as 7 inches. Unfolding the device will reveal a bigger screen that measures up to 10 inches. The projector will project the keyboard and the track pad. Running windows 10, this device could kick start an entire new device category and probably replace your traditional laptop.
But as of now, there is no mention of such a display from Samsung.
