First things first, Samsung music isn’t a competitor to the Apple music streaming service. Samsung music is a typical music playing app that will let you play various audio files with some additional features such as song categorization based on folder, composer etc.
There were heavy rumours speculating that Samsung will be shutting its music streaming service, Milk Music, due to lack of user base. While this turned out to be true the other one didn’t. there was also a rumours that Samsung was on the verge of buying jay Z owned Tidal, the high fidelity music streaming service. But Samsung has issued a statement that it will not be buying the service but I guess they are going to partner for some kind of music collaborating to counter Spotify and Apple Music.
The real news is that Korean tech company is aiming Samsung music as a one stop shop for all the music needs and is heavily investing resources into the app. this music playing app is in the beta stage but Samsung has dropped it in the play store for testing purposes.
People who have downloaded the application have reported that this is pretty much a normal music playback app that will play formats like MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC. The app also has audio playback as well as tabbed navigation. As usual, Samsung has cooked the app with a host of interactivity features such as support of its tablets and TVs. Some of these feature include DLNA and screen mirroring. There is also support for wearables such as Gear S2.
Samsung has indicated that it doesn’t want the app to be a complex one like many out there and the final result is a music app that is “clean and intuitive.”
One curious thing is that Samsung has unbundled this native app from its latest flagships and users will have to download it via the play store. The purpose of such a move is that Samsung will be able to update and add features to the app without pushing software update to the entire TouchWiz laden Android operating system.
Currently, the app is compatible only with the S7 and S7 edge. Samsung device with Marshmallow operating system will soon be able to run this app.
