Samsung is on a shopping spree. After acquiring smart home appliances maker SmartThings, and LoopPay that powers the Samsung pay’s magnetic secure transmission technology, Samsung has agreed to but amazon’s rival, a cloud computing based company called as joyent.

Samsung has not mentioned the terms of the agreement or the price tag for acquiring joyent. In a press statement, the Korean tech giant has mentioned that this move is to solidify the cloud-based services for its devices and internet connected appliances.

Joyent is set to fold under Samsung’ mobile division but will continue to operate independently under Samsung’s supervision. The cloud tech expertise will enhance Samsung products further to better compete against apple and amazon’s offerings.

CEO Scott Hammond, CTO Bryan Cantrill, and VP of products, Bill Fine will now work on various cloud projects that Samsung has in the pipeline.

“As Samsung is increasingly focusing on software and services as part of its offering to users, it’s very important to build out our internal capabilities in the cloud, not only in infrastructure but also in great talent,” says Jacopo Lenzi, a senior vice president at Samsung’s Global Innovation Center. “In Joyent, we saw a combination of a proven platform that has been a leader in the forward-thinking elements of this space as well as a team that is world class.” Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

“As a result of this acquisition, Samsung will become an anchor tenant for Joyent’s Triton and Manta solutions, and will help fuel the growth of our team and the expansion of our worldwide data center footprint.

This acquisition, though, is about more than just adding financial muscle and scale. Joyent and Samsung share a culture of innovation and technical excellence, and bring together a set of highly complementary cloud, big data, mobile and IoT technologies.” said the CEO
