Samsung made a donation of $1 million to the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation’s Maintenance Fund in the united states exactly a month prior to the observance day. It stated that the service provided by the 23 million veterans is not forgotten.
The donation will guarantee the maintenance and care of the grounds of the veteran memorial. The memorials house 19 statues signifying the members who engaged in a deathly combat to safeguard peace without caring for their own lives. It also houses 2500 etched photos of the soldiers who were killed, injured or missing in action and scenes of a costly war.
“Over sixty years ago, millions of U.S. service members came to South Korea’s aid during the Korean War. More than one hundred thousand Americans were wounded and over 36,000 gave their lives in defence of freedom. Samsung remembers their sacrifice,” said Won-Kyong Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics America. “That’s why Samsung is proud to support the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation’s Maintenance Fund, so that millions of visitors to Washington, D.C. also remember their defense of freedom.”
“The Korean War Veterans Memorial is one of the most inspiring war memorials in our Nation’s Capital. This memorial serves to honour the veterans and those who made the supreme sacrifice in the war and with the generous donation from Samsung, we can be assured it will stand as a tribute and remain inspiring for decades to come,” said Colonel William E. Weber, Chairman of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation.
United states played an important role in maintaining the peace and independence of south Korea six decades since. After the war passed, both the countries have worked in close sync and rebuild the country that today is one of the best innovating nation in technology world. Samsung played an important part in rebuilding the country when it was still a budding company.
It is still nice to see that the efforts of the war soldiers aren’t forgotten.
