Samsung suffered yet another defeat in the smartphone segment as its global market share has fallen below the 25% mark for the first time since its rise to the market leader position. It has still maintained a distinctive lead from others but the Chinese manufacturers are fast catching up and cutting into the profits of the market front runners.
The global research firm, trendforce, has ousted it latest reports on the smartphones sales. The overall industry has maintained a healthy 9% growth over last year but the shift of power in the industry is significant. The Q3 results are in and Samsung is still the leader with 24.6% of smartphones sales with apple behind it with a score of 13.7%.
Surprise, surprise. Huawei is in the third position with a 100 million smartphone shipments this year. A first for a Chinese manufactured. Huawei was also awarded the most innovative smartphone maker title a while back. The other two spots were occupied by xaomi and Lenovo, both Chinese manufacturers.
Samsung recently reported that it has had health profits fuelled by growth in the processor and semiconductor unit. But the smartphone segment remained in the red signalling the ongoing struggles. The galaxy s6 was supposed to turn the table for Samsung but it failed to generate the kind of interest the Samsung was hoping and its market leader position is fast failing. it seems there is nothing that Samsung can do to stop the slide.
Most notably, Samsung’s arch rival, apple gained on its share last year backed by the large screened iPhone. But the bright spot for Samsung is that it still has a market share close to 42% in the India, the next destination for the smartphone war as the U.S. and chines market become saturated.
