Nvidia was dealt with a severe blow by the U.S. ITC which ruled that Samsung has not infringed on the Nvidia graphic patents. The ITC also ruled that the 3 of the seven patents listed were already covered in the previous patents and hence held them invalid.

The lawsuit filed by Nvidia which accused the Korean tech colossus of simply lifting its works and using them in devices such as the galaxy s5, note 5 and note edge. It also listed android tablets such as galaxy tab s, tab 2 and note pro. In case Nvidia won the lawsuit, it would have the power to ban the listed devices from being sold in the united states. NVidia also requested a compensation fee from Samsung for using its tech in the devices without prior agreement.

“Today’s initial determination is one more step in the ITC’s legal process,” Nvidia said Friday in a statement. “We remain confident in our case.”

Nvidia also filed a lawsuit against QUALCOMM. The 805 chip that were used in the above mentioned devices were infringing on its patents that has been introduced in the year 1999. And since Samsung used the 805, it was also responsible in the infringement. The technology used by Samsung was developed by Qualcomm’s Adreno graphics, ARM Holdings’ Mali technology and Imagination’s PowerVR graphics architecture either independently or with association with each other

This defeat is not the end of the patent war. Nvdia plans to file a counter and go on with the legal battle. the lawsuits in the patent war go on for probably years. Samsung and apple have been fighting each other in the court room for years now and since the judgement have been delayed for far too long, they settled their disputed outside the U.S. and are still fighting the U.S. disputes.
