Samsung is known for flooding the market with phones that look and feels similar but vary in minor ways and latest news suggest it’s creating more that “same pinch, good enough phones.” These phones will fall under a new category called as C-Series.
The first in this series will be Galaxy C5 and will sport a 5.2 inch Super AMOLED display. But the internals are more powerful than initially thought. The phone will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 617 SoC (clocked at 1.5GHz) coupled with 4 GB of RAM. But I highly doubt the amount of RAM provided. Samsung would more likely be inclined towards 2 GB rather than 4 GB given the low-cost nature of the device. The C7 will also have the same internals but with a bigger screen size.
As usual, the operating system running on this device is the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
But the real star of the show is the metallic design of the body. The reports don’t mention metal but metallic design. There is a subtle difference. A metal unibody is entirely made of elements such as aluminium, but a metallic body could be made of plastic with a layer of metal wrapped around it to give a luxurious feel while in hand. This design could be observed in the newly launched LG G5. This allows Samsung to wrap the phone in premium design aura all the while cutting down on the manufacturing cost.
This handset is targeting user in China and India and will be similar to the Galaxy A-series of smartphones. Although these are metal phones, Samsung is planning to launch them at a low-end price that will start from $170.
The model numbers associated with the phone are SM-C5000 and SM-C7000.
