Samsung Gear Live, the first smartwatch from Saumsung with Android Wear platform announced today at the Google I/O event. Samsung retained the same form factor of Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo on Gear Live with beautiful 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display as the Gear 2, though without things like a hardware home button.
Other hardware specs include a 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and a 300 mAh battery.
On software front the new Gear Live is completely different from Samsung’s earlier offerings. While both Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo were powered by Tizen, the latest Gear Live is using just announced Android Wear OS.
Gear Live’s main features are now centered around Google Now for live information that people have come to love on Android smartphones and tablets, along with always-on “Ok Google” voice input for things like calling a taxi, sending a text, making a restaurant reservation or setting an alarm. Other features include notification syncing, option to change the clock face, control your phone’s music player, and using apps for counting a user’s heart rate, for which the Gear Live’s integrated heart rate sensor should come in handy.
Samsung Gear Live is available from today at Google Play Store and is priced at $199. Samsung is offering this new smartwatch in two different colors Black and Wine Red.
