If you do not know what High Dynamic Range or HDR means, then know that it is a feature found in high-end 4k television sets that enable the colors to pop out and the end result is a crisp and a clear picture on screen. For the first time, Samsung is bringing this feature to a mobile screen.
It is calling this feature as Mobile HDR. But to take advantage of this feature, the content has to be compatible. Amazon has announced that it will provide an entire catalog that will now be called as mobile HDR content for the Note 7. Others such as Netflix and Hulu are slated to join at a later stage.
Samsung hasn’t announced this feature for the other flagship, Galaxy S7. It is believed that the Korean smartphone maker has built the Note 7 with a special display that is capable of HDR and if that’s the case, the Galaxy S7 will never get HDR via a software update.
The Note 7, with HDR capabilities, can now display deeper blacks and whiter whites than a standard mobile display.
Mobile Digital Natural Image Engine (mDNIe) and Super AMOLED screen are the key here in running the HDR video that offers movie like experience to the viewers.
Samsung has also made the handset so power efficient that even while streaming the HDR content, the battery life of the handset will not be impacted.
But this is a feature that is still in its infancy. Even Sony is developing a 4k HDR capable smartphone but if you are going to buy a handset based on this sole factor, then patience is advised. More information and reviews will point out the pros and cons of this mobile HDR.
