Numerous major investments are headed into Samsung’s semiconductor division in recent months and years. Today the fruits of the cash injections were unveiled. Specifically, Samsung has announced the latest chips, the fourth generation 14nm and third generation 10nm processes that will be used for upcoming consumer electronics and automotive parts.

Compared to the current 14nm process technology, the 14LPU promises to deliver additional performance while remaining in the same power budget. These will be especially used in devices that require peak performance for long periods of time.

The 10LPU process on the other hand is designed to shrink down the silicon area of the chip. It will not boost performance whatsoever. Compared to the last generations, the 10LPU will be most cost effective technique for building high performance 10nm chips. It is also rumored that in the near future Samsung will manufacture the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 on the current 10nm LPE process.
