The Korean smartphone company is looking to increase its capacity of chips and is willing to spend $9.2 billion into their South Korean chip plant.

This will result in an overall 64% increase over announced investment plants. Samsung last year announced that they were going to invest 15.6 trillion won to build the plant.

They have since become the world’s top memory chip maker. Samsung is starting to focus on its semiconductor business which has led to slow smartphone earnings.

The plant is said to start production in 2017 but still the news about when the investment is actually going to take place is not announced yet.

Their new plant will look to make DRAM memory chips as well as mobile processors but Samsung said that all of that will take place according to the condition of the market. The plans for their new plant which will be built in Pyeongtaek has led to some worries.
