Samsung has finally shown us the gargantuan tablet that it has been teasing for quite some time. While the initial impressions were of a bulky tablet that looks ugly, the tablet look really good when viewed in person. Here are some pictures that shows the galaxy view in its full glory.
Samsung is positioning this tablet as a video consumption device rather than a productive tablet like the iPad pro. Think that the surface pro 4 was big, you should really see the galaxy view. With a full HD display and an 18.4-inch screen, galaxy view is in an awkward position. Samsung is doing unusual things to the usual devices to arrest the tablet sales slide.
After watching the preview video, I understood that this galaxy view could be the most interactive video consumption device ever built. It has a specialized stand that also acts as a holding groove to carry this large tablet. The tablet is based on the android lollipop 5.1.1 and since Samsung is targeting the video lovers, the home screen will be video centric. Samsung has also engineered a special screen that resembles the windows 10 tile start menu, but in this case, you will have all the video apps such as Hulu, Netflix and YouTube.
There is no craze in the specs. Apart from a beautiful display, the galaxy view has 2 MP front facing camera, no back camera. 2 GB ram with 32 or 64 GB expandable memory is provided. A decent 1.6 GHz octa core processor and a 5.7 ampere hour battery powers the device. This tablet weighs in at 2.7 kg, a bit on the heavy side.
The big tablet comes at an even bigger price. The starting price is $599 for the 32 GB model.
