Samsung fans who were hoping for the galaxy S7 smartphone to have radically new body design will be disappointed. The render leaks show us that the S7 will be very similar to the galaxy s6. The render points out that the superphone will have 143.37 x 70.8 x 6.94 mm measurements and the phone will have minimal changes externally when compared to previous generations.
Samsung has a habit of throwing in some surprises and that was evident when it introduced the note edge. The renders also point out to a strange device that has a whopping measurements of 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82mm. the galaxy mega phone that has a screen size of 6 inch has similar measurements. All this indicate that Samsung is going really big with its superphone and the regular 5.2-inch version will be accompanied by an elder sibling with a mammoth 6-inch screen size. I wonder if it would fit into the pocket?
Some notable design changes are the infamous curvy home button. Samsung is replacing this design with a rectangular button. Another difference is that the sim card now has a new home on the lower right side.
When asked about the design similarities, some experts had these words to say:
“The main driver has been and will continue to be the success of low-cost smartphones in emerging markets. This, in turn, will depend on capturing value-oriented first-time smartphone buyers as well as replacement buyers. We believe that, in a number of high-growth markets, replacement cycles will be less than the typical two-year rate, mainly because the components that comprise a sub-$100 smartphone simply do not have the ability to survive two years. Offering products that appeal to both types of buyers at a suitable price point will be crucial to maintaining growth and vendor success.”
Samsung also has a grave problem on its hands. No doubt the 6-inch superphone would be great and more powerful than anything we have ever seen but it would also risk cannibalizing the sales of its other superphone in the note series, the note 5 and note 6.
