Samsung is losing profits in the smartphone division and I guess it decided to lose the money in a sensible way. An insider has leaked that the galaxy s7 may have a variant that could be powered by the tizen os instead of android marshmallow.

Samsung has been battling the dominance of google in the android world for a long time now and it wants to reduce its dependence on the search giant for its hardware. With this goal in mind, Samsung and intel developed the Linux based tizen os that could power anything from a washing machine, smartwatches to television and smartphones.

But the tizen eco system is plagued by the lack of apps and Samsung is doing its best to cover this weakness. We have recently seen that tizen has now become the 4th most popular mobile os in the smartphone world beating the blackberry os and Firefox. This was largely powered by the z1 and z3 smartphones that Samsung made available in India.

Now Samsung want to play hard and is preparing a tizen variant of the galaxy s7 or at least a premium smartphone whose spec will rival the flagships and will be the flag bearer for the tizen eco system showcasing the possibilities with the new os.

Samsung knows that it can never win if it went head-on with the android world. For this purpose, Samsung is slowly building up the base for this os by incorporating it into the smartwatches and tv while the developers slowly build apps for them. Facebook and vlc has official apps for the tizen devices.

The time seems to be ripe to introduce the tizen to the world and what best way could Samsung come up with than a tizen variant of the s7?
