Bestbuy and Walmart have reported that they have run out of the blackberry priv’s stock. They had to replenish in order to meet the demand. But what might be so great about a phone selling out in the holiday season when the prices are lowered?
The fact to be grasped here is that an android phone sold out and not the iPhone. Typically, Samsung should have been that android manufacturer but that isn’t the case here. It was the blackberry priv, the first fully functional android phone from the Canadian based blackberry that took the honours.
I agree to the fact that blackberry isn’t selling as many phones as Samsung and the stocks of the phone must have been very limited but people are actually craving the phone. They liked it so much that even though blackberry dared to price its phone above the price of the base model iPhone, people brought the phone.
Android manufactures have been participation in a race to the bottom but with blackberry, that isn’t the case. Android operating system isn’t relevant here. More or less, the same experience is available on the Huawei 6p. blackberry won the heart with its legendary keyboard and a sense of security that it creates among the users about their data and privacy. It certainly lived up to its name.
Blackberry provided the same security before but the lack of apps hurt it more than anything. no more with the blackberry priv. I would go as far as to say that blackberry triumphed Samsung in the premium phone market despite the fact that its sales are a fraction when compared to Samsung wares. But the future hold something different if blackberry can maintain the momentum.
Samsung needs to innovate more if it wants to stay as the dominant player in the premium phone segment where apple reign supremacy and blackberry is the dark horse.
