The South Korean tech giant, Samsung, has experienced the worst year-to-year market share drop in its history. This was from statistics from the third quarter of the year. However, even with the huge financial drop it managed to stay number one in terms of sales, as it managed to sale 71.7 million smartphones to consumers.

Compared with the drop in Q3 of 2015, this year was much worse. The third quarter of this year, Samsung’s market shares dropped from 23.6% (from 2015) to 19.2%. Sales have also decreased by 14.2% compared to Q3 2015.

The main reason for this was the Note 7 fiasco, but that is not all. Nowadays consumers are getting more price-conscious and are increasingly turning to Chinese manufacturers for better deals.

On the other hand, some companies saw improvements in their sales market share data logs, but the Huawei, Oppo and BBK took the biggest advantage of Samsung’s drops. These three companies accounted for 21% of global smartphone sales in Q3.

Apple also saw a decrease in sales by around three million units.

Samsung has a to get back on track in order to beat this decline in sales. It may be an all-in situation with the Galaxy S8. With time we shall see the final outcome.
