The Samsung’s latest flagship phone, Samsung Galaxy S6, will be announced on 1st of March. In 2015, the company sales and market shares were dropped very prominently, after the release of Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5 was very similar to its predecessor, Galaxy S4, due to which, it failed to attract the market.
Samsung also faced a hard competition by the big-screened iPhone 6 line-up, and mid-ranged Xiaomi Chinese smartphones. So, this time Samsung needs to come up with some cutting-edge and unique features, to turn up the sales. This hints that Samsung is also planning to release an Edge variant of the Galaxy S6, as suggested by a promo image on US carrier T-Mobile’s website with the tag line “The Six Appeal”.
The Galaxy S6 Edge will have curved screen on both edges, which will equip the device with many extra functionalities. Hopefully, Samsung will be able to raise its sales and get back its market shares by launching the Edge concept, which will attract many buyers due to its curved edge screen.
According to one of our authentic sources, the 64GB version of Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced at €949 (≈$1,076), whereas the 128GB version of Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced at almost €1,049 (≈$1,189). The price of 128GB version is almost €50 more than that of the equivalent iPhone 6 Plus.
So these prices suggest that the Galaxy S6 Edge is priced at a very high-end, overtaking the Apple’s iPhones, but still, it is not over-priced, keeping in mind, the Curved Edge displays that is a new concept in the market.
The non-curved, simple Galaxy S6 will be priced at almost $100 less than the Edge variant. The 32GB version of Galaxy S6 will be priced at €749 (≈$849), the 64GB version will be priced at €849 (≈$963), and the top-end 128GB version will be priced at €949 (≈$1,076).
This suggests that the Edge curved versions cost €100 (≈$124) more than the simple Galaxy S6. But, since these are the European pricings, the prices of devices in U.S. will be much different than those obtained by simply converting Euros into US Dollars. Whatever the case is, this surely means that you will have to pike up above four-digits to afford a model of Galaxy S6 that has good data capacity, or a curved edge display.
However, recent reports have suggested that Samsung is having a hard time producing the curved display in large quantities, which means that the phone will come in a very short supply when it is launched, making it over-priced. Only one-third of the Galaxy S6 smartphones, being shipped, are the Edge variants.
This may cause a shortage of the device in the market, if this is the device everyone wants to buy by paying an extra 100 Euros. But most hopefully, Samsung will get rid of this yield issue before it impacts the consumers in the market, to maintain its reputation.
The device will be announced at the Unpacked event on the 1st of March, Sunday, in the Mobile World Capital Barcelona, just one day before the Mobile World Congress Event. So, we will get a shot to see if the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, have the potential to fray the competition.
