As we all know, Samsung has unveiled its much awaited flagship smartphone, Galaxy S6, on the 1st of March, with a lot of enhancements, and overhauls; compared to Galaxy S5. The phone is reported to have snappy performance, extended battery time, and crystal-clear display.
In this article, we will compare it to one of HTC’s last year’s flagship smartphone, The HTC One M8. Let’s take a look at how the HTC One M8 compares to one of the latest flagship smartphone by Samsung.
Design
• The new Samsung Galaxy S6 has an improved design when compared against its predecessors. The device is wrapped in a metal frame around its edges. The device is only 6.8mm thick, and weighs only 138g for a big phone, making it one of the lightest and slimmest phones around.
The Galaxy S6 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 from the front and back, which makes the device more protected and light-weight.
• The HTC One (M8) was one of the handsome phones of 2014 in terms of design. The HTC One comes with a metal-grey brushed aluminum body, which was much appreciated and praised back in the time.
However, this design makes the device more cumbersome and heavy because of its slippery metallic body. Nonetheless, the HTC One (M8) has front-facing stereo speakers on its top and bottom bezels, which add up to additional features in terms of design. The HTC One M8 is protected on the front panel by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
As we can see that Galaxy S6 has a much better premium design and feel, as compared to the HTC One (M8) which was a crowd-pleaser back in 2014.
Display
• The Galaxy S6 boasts a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a qHD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, which displays almost 577 pixels per inch. The exceptional display resolution gives the sharpest and clearest graphics quality around, be it HD games, images, or videos. Samsung has also reworked the brightness levels, and Color vibrancy of the display.
• The HTC One (M8) boasts a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 display having a Full HD (1080p) Resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, which displays 441 pixels per inch. The Full HD Resolution of the device gives good image clarity against many other phones. The brightness levels are also adequate for viewing the screen in sunlight.
As we can easily observe, the Galaxy S6 not only outclasses the HTC One (M8), but it has easily cornered the market towards itself in terms of its display, which is quite noteworthy.
Performance
Here, we will compare how both the devices perform against each other, and which one outclasses the other in terms of performance.
• The Galaxy S6 is powered by a 14nm chipset; the smallest one around, that is capable of processing the data at Octa-Core power with a clock speed of 2.1GHz. The processor is paired with 3GB of DDR4 RAM, and a powerful GPU-Mali T760.
• The HTC One M8 also features quite decent performance specifications. The HTC One M8 possesses a SnapDragon 801 Quad-Core Processor with a clock speed of 2.3GHz. The HTC One M8 comes with 2GB of DDR3 Ram, along with a decent Adreno 330 GPU.
The Galaxy S6 also beats the HTC One M8 at many performance-related benchmarks, and not only the HTC One M8, but most of the other high-end phones, that have been benchmarked till now. Hence, we can say that the Galaxy S6 outclasses the HTC One M8 by great margins.
Camera
• Samsung has always been a big player in the camera territory. Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, Galaxy S6, comes with a 16-Megapixel Primary camera, and 5-Megapixel front-facing camera.
Both of these cameras come with real-time automatic HDR imaging capabilities, which has been made possible due to its zippy processor. The camera is also able to capture bright and clear images at low lighting conditions.
• HTC had come up with a different approach for the camera of its flagship smartphone, using the Ultrapixel technology, and using a 4-Megapixel camera. The Ultrapixel technology increases the pixel size of the captured images, absorbing more light.
As for the front-facing camera, it is a usual 5-Megapixel camera, which used to capture a lot wider pictures, than its competitors back in 2014.
Like in other departments, Samsung has clearly outmatched the HTC’s One M8 in the camera department, too, with its Galaxy S6.
Battery
• The Samsung Galaxy S6 is loaded with a Li-Ion 2550 mAh battery, which, Samsung claims, will sustain a battery life of about 20 hours on a single charge. Moreover, Samsung has advertised that it can sustain a usage of 4 hours on charging the phone for 10 minutes.
• The HTC One (M8) packs a similar Li-Po 2600 mAh battery. The battery sustains almost 7 hours of screen-on, WiFi-connected usage, according to a battery test from one of our reliable sources. HTC advertised the battery life of the HTC One M8 to endure 20 hours of talk-time.
Both the smartphones’ batteries are user non-removable, however, if the Samsung’s advertisements are true enough, the Galaxy S6 clearly out-rivals the HTC One M8.
