Apple has been grabbing market shares from Samsung ever since it launched iPhone 6 back in September. Comparatively, the Samsung Galaxy S5 was not so much praised among the consumers around the world, due to which Samsung decided to make a comeback with its Galaxy S6 to outstrip Apple’s iPhone 6, which has been a crowd-pleaser since September up till now. Samsung has surpassed the iPhone 6 in terms of design, performance, and camera, with great margins, with the launch of its latest flagship smartphone; the Galaxy S6.
Design
Here, we will take a look at how both of these devices feel in the hand while holding, and compare both devices in terms of design.
• The iPhone 6 mostly seems like an iPhone, with a front covered with glass, and a signature home button that plays a double-role as a fingerprint scanner. However, the rear of the device has been re-crafted with anodized aluminum that gives a different and premium feel, when holding the device. The hard edge design, which apple introduced with iPhone 4 has been removed and the device has been made smoother to hold in the hand, with a tight grip.
• The latest Galaxy S6 has also been reworked in terms of design. Samsung has put design at first priority while manufacturing the device. Samsung has produced most visually-stunning devices this time. The cheap plastic build incorporated in Galaxy S5 has vanished, and the new Galaxy S6 has been made totally of glass and metal. The phone is protected on the front and back by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, while the edges of the handset are wrapped in a premium metal frame. However, the square camera that is embossed on the rear panel can be a turn-down for many consumers.
So, Samsung has inherited a lot from the previous models of iPhones in terms of design, by using a glass front and back and a unibody design. The hardware button placements of the Galaxy S6 are also very much similar to the new iPhone 6, which means Samsung has incorporated most of the design from Apple’s iPhones into its new Galaxy S6.
Display
In this section, we will see how both devices face each other in terms of display; the centerpiece of the device.
• The Apple iPhone 6 boasts a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD Display. The iPhone 6 features Retina HD display, which shows a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels that results in a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch.
• The brand-new Galaxy S6 boasts a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display. Samsung has used a QHD (Quad HD) display this time, with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, which shows an eye-bursting 577 pixels per inch which is insanely high. Samsung has also improved the color vibrancy, and brightness levels of the display.
So, it is evident from the above comparison that Samsung clearly takes on the iPhone 6 in terms of display, offering better brightness levels, better color depths, and an industry-leading pixel density.
Performance
In this segment, we will compare the all-new Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6 on the basis of performance, despite both of the devices using completely different Operating Systems.
• Apple has incorporated a self-proprietary 64-Bit Apple-A8 Dual-core Cyclone processor that is based on ARM-v8 architecture, running at a clock speed of 1.4GHz. The processor is backed by 1GB of Ram, and a Quad-core GPU – PowerVR GX6450. This combination gives quite snappy performance on the handset.
• The latest Samsung Galaxy S6 is powered by a 64-Bit Exynos 7420 Quad-core processor that is clocked at 2.1GHz. The processor is aided with 3GB of Ram and a pretty decent GPU-Mali T760. This mix of hardware is guaranteed to give the users a smooth and speedy experience.
As we can see from the above comparison, the Galaxy S6 clearly wins the performance war on the paper, but, as both of the devices run on completely different Operating System, the performance of both devices is relatively similar.
Camera
Samsung has always been producing great cameras for its device, and the same goes for Apple. Here we will see, how cameras of both devices contrast with each other.
• Apple’s iPhone 6 clearly loses the megapixel race, by featuring an 8-Megapixel Camera, but still, it sports a lot of additional features, such as, phase detection autofocus, HDR mode, and Simultaneous HD image and video recording, etc. The handset also sports a 1.2-Megapixel front-facing camera, with HDR mode, and face-detection.
• The new Galaxy S6 features a 16-Megapixel rear camera, and a 5-Megapixel front-facing camera, both of which sport a lens of f/1.9 aperture, and a CMOS image sensor, to capture super-wide images. Additionally, Samsung has included a software-based Optical Image Stabilization feature paired with HDR imaging capabilities. Both of the cameras excel at capturing vibrant and eye-catching photos, even at low-lighting conditions, through a software-based image-stacking.
In the camera race, Samsung Galaxy S6, leaves the Apple iPhone 6, far behind.
Operating System
As we know, both devices work on two different Operating Systems that have their own features and capabilities. Both operating systems are trying their best to provide a better user experience than the other one.
• The Apple iPhone 6 is powered by iOS 8 which provides an exceptionally easy-to-use and premium user experience. This OS is recommended for basic users.
• The Galaxy S6 is powered by yummy goodness of Android Lollipop, paired with TouchWiz UI 4, which provides a customizable UI, and an exceptional ease-of-use. This OS is recommended for advanced users.
Both devices have their own Operating systems that are good in their own nature for the users.
Battery
Ultimately, we will see how much battery life both devices offer.
• The Apple iPhone 6 is backed by a Li-Po battery of 1810mAh. Apple claims that the device will last 11 hours on Wi-Fi, 10 hours on Cellular Data, while 50 hours on music playback.
• The Galaxy S6 devours its power from a Li-Ion battery of 2550mAh. Samsung claims that the device can survive for 20 hours of moderate usage on a single charge. Samsung also claimed that after charging the device for 10 minutes, the device can survive a usage of 4 hours. The Galaxy S6 also supports wireless charging that is compliant with both wireless charging standards.
The Galaxy S6 is far ahead of the Apple iPhone 6 in terms of providing a better battery life.
