Believe me, Samsung started great with the milk services. Even I loved the idea of having a music service that had no advertisements and something that was exclusive to Galaxy devices. I felt privileged. But the cut-throat competition from services like the Apple music and Pandora has pretty much killed this service.
When Samsung introduced new set of TVs this year at CES 2016, there was no milk music app. This literally pointed out at Samsung’s wish to kill the service. This is a part of Samsung’s plan to clean up its services as well as Touchwiz and simplify the entire user experience on its devices. Samsung even let go of its other services such as Chaton messenger. it had hoped these services that were expensive to build, would bring in some revenue but that clearly wasn’t the case.
Samsung might be the most popular Android hardware manufacturer but its presence on the software side is almost negligible with lame apps that aren’t of much use in the real world.
There is also a rumour going on that Samsung is in talks with tidal. Yes, the same music streaming service that jay Z owns and Kanye west endorses with his albums. But Samsung has clearly stated that it is not interested in buying this music service.
There isn’t any smoke without the fire. Apple has been gaining traction with its Apple music service that is available even on Android space. It is believed that Samsung wants tidal music to take over the reins of milk music and have a head-on clash with Apple music that currently has over 11 million paid subscribers.
We do believe that Samsung is arranging for some kind of pact that will make tidal exclusive to the Galaxy devices. We will have to wait for some time for concrete information.
