Samsung has just introduced us to tits newest member in its security camera line up, the smartcam HD plus. This is the successor to the Samsung smartcam pro that came out last year. Even though the body design and the aesthetics of the device have changed, the working and specs remain identical to the previous generation smartcam.
As the name suggests, the smartcam is a security setup to monitor a given environment. This camera offers live streaming to your smartphone in full HD resolution and it can cover the viewing field of 130 degrees. Some of the other features are the local storage as Samsung had included a 16 GB micro SD card. The smartcam can detect motion and sound. It will alert you in case of any suspicious activity.
Although this device has changed a lot since its previous generation, the smartcam plus strikingly resembles the $200 nest cam. Not only that, it works in a similar fashion too but will cost you $10 less.
There are some disappointments too. The nest cam can also detect smoke and carbon monoxide when combined with a nest thermostat. These features are absent here considering that Samsung could have make a better product with help of the smartThing company that it acquired.
To operate this device, you will need an app (android and iOS) that can also operate the smartcam HD pro.
Samsung is making some smart home equipment that offer alternative to the Google’s nest offering and apple home kit equipment. But there is lots of room for improvement before we can recommend this smartcam as a must have and go to security camera device.
