It seems that Samsung might be working on variants of Galaxy S7 that will be powered by mediatek chipset, MediaTek Helio X20, and Helio X25 to be specific. This isn’t the first time that Samsung has used different processors in the same handset. For instance, the Galaxy S7 that is sold in the united states and china is powered by a snapdragon 820.

The international version of the handset that is sold in many regions is run by Samsung’s home-grown Exynos 8890. I have absolutely no idea why Samsung would go for a third variant that is powered by a Mediatek’s Helio Processor.

One reason experts have pointed out that the Helio X25 Is a Deca-Core Chipset. Meaning, it has 10 cores. The snapdragon 820 and the 8890 has 8 cores. Samsung has usually stayed on top of the specification game and it wants to be the first smartphone manufacturer to release a deca-core processor powered smartphone.

The model number attached to the phone is SM-G930W8. Samsung has labeled the number SM-G930 for the S7 variants and the W is generally reserved for phones released in Canada. All this speculation indicate that Samsung is positioning the phone for Canadian users.

The Geekbench is pointing out towards two such variants of the S7. One powered by MediaTek Helio X25 chip that is believed to be as powerful as the 8890 variant of the Galaxy S7 and the other is a slightly underpowered variant with Helio X20 processor. The former comes with 4 GB of RAM while the latter has 3 GB. The Helio X20 powered handset could end up being the Galaxy S7 neo.

We have no other information about the specs and will have to wait until Samsung officially introduced the phones.
