Samsung Tizen smartphones are coming as soon as 2nd quarter of 2014 if latest report from Reuters to be believed. According to latest reports senior vice president of Samsung’s product strategy team Yoon Han-kil confirmed that Samsung is going to release two Tizen powered smartphones quite soon.
Samsung is trying to make its presence in Mobile OS space from quite time, first with Bada OS and now it’s Tizen project. There are many other providing active support to the open source project, which include Intel. Samsung wants to make its own ecosystem to give a steep competition to Apple App Store and Google Play Store. But Tizen project is quite delayed because many issues.
Yoon said that although Android “still needs to be our main business”, Tizen or Windows would be used for markets that Android could not address.
“We had tried to launch (Tizen) with DoCoMo and Orange, but couldn’t because of poor market conditions. We have changed our strategy and will release the phones in a few countries where we can do well,” he said, adding that he thought Tizen would have to account for up to 15 percent of Samsung’s total smartphone shipments to become a successful platform.
Samsung will release one high-end and one medium segment smartphones during end of second quarter powered by Tizen OS.
Samsung recently dropped Android from it Galaxy Gear smartwatch products and used Tizen instead. Also Samsung is trying to make Galaxy Gear with Tizen OS compatible with all the android smartphones built by different companies.
