This year’s CES (consumer electronics show) 2016 will introduce a host of new gadgets to the world. it has a history of producing brilliant and the most boring techtronics alike. This time it’s the turn to introduce a reinvented fridge. The special feature about this Samsung fridge is that it has a 21.5-inch screen on its door that can do a lot of things.
This fridge is dubbed as the Family Hub Refrigerator. This giant screen would be useless if you just have to write a sticky note in it. The leaked picture also mentions the words “get connected”. This indicated that this fridge will have the ability to connect to the internet. I suspect that it will also be compatible with Samsung’s version of internet of things, SmartThings. It’s possible to cool a specific compartment by activating a command on your connected smartphone while you are at office so that the ice cream would be super cool by the time you reach home.
This four door fridge is absolutely massive and isn’t for everyone. there are capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen that are similar to the android on-screen button layout but I am pretty sure Samsung cooked tizen os into the fridge instead of android. The leaked pictures also show a song being played. If that is true, then Samsung has also built a speaker (a pair, most likely) into it.
The screen also shows calendar, weather, message centre, news app, check list and grocery list apps. There might be an amazon app that will help you to buy groceries from the screen. How convenient would that be. All in all, I think this is a very interesting take of the next generation fridge but I highly doubt building multimedia feature into it will work. We have our slew of tablets, smartphones and computer that are more than capable to perform the task.
The price range is expected to be at $4000. Premium price for a premium product.
