Samsung Electronics has finally started to demonstrate projects in order to improve its own semiconductor design ability. This is due to the Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics Lee Jae-yong as he has directly ordered the company to do so.
Samsung also plans on maintaining its initiative in semiconductor design technology which is the foundation of not only mobile devices but also the upcoming era of the Internet of Things.
On March 17th the Vice Chairman of Samsung Lee ordered the company’s executive team to strengthen the technology capacity of the company in order to design mobile devices and numerous other semiconductors.
The LSI division of the South Korean company has also kicked off its own custom core technology development project for mobile application processors.
Samsung is expecting that it will see results of this by the first quarter of the next year. Moreover unlike its competitors Apple and Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics till now does not have its own custom core technology mobile Aps.
Samsung has also planned on making progress on a project that will develop smartphone chips integrating mobile Aps and modems. Up till now Samsung Electronics has been dependent on Qualcomm for this purpose.
The South Korean giant is planning to use its own integrated chip on smartphones that will be released after the Galaxy S6 and will also be diversifying its product groups such as graphics processing units and central processing units for PCs. For this reason the company has signed numerous technology licensing contracts with STMicroelectronics.
