Samsung is one manufacturer who likes to cling to the old. This is evident from the removable battery, plastic design, and the micro USB port of its previous phones. When the Galaxy S7 came out with the legacy port, everyone accused Samsung of the same reason. The Korean giant stood by its decision and explained that the USB Type-C is a technology which isn’t quite ready yet and a lot has been invested in the legacy port. But the real reason was that adding the USB Type-C port would make the S7 incompatible with the Gear VR that is so important aspect of Samsung ecosystem and the replacement headset wasn’t quite ready.

But it seems that Samsung is ready to embrace the future as a video surfaced online showing a USB Type-C cable with Samsung branding. We have also seen earlier this month a Note 7 body that showed the USB Type-C port instead of the micro USB port like its predecessors. This has all but confirmed that Samsung will indeed include the port into its next superphone and with this addition, the phone will literally become future proof and will stay relevant for at least 5 years down the line.

A Vietnamese website has shown what definitely seemed like a Samsung made USB Type-C cable that has a model number EP-DN930CWE on it. For reference, the Note 7 has the number SM-N930 attached to it all but confirming that this cable will come in the retail box of the Note 7. Not only that, Samsung is also making a new version of the Gear VR that has the USB Type-C port.

The other new features that will be coming to the Note series are the iris scanner for added security, water resistant design and always on display.
