As Samsung has been saying for quite a long time that it wants to develop a perfect smartwatch the round Orbis smartwatch patent is a testimony to that.
Now lately the Korean giant has been aiming to bring security and functionality to its devices with Knox 2.0 for its Galaxy smartphones.
Moreover just last week Samsung showed that it has got a second generation Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 in the wings.
Now it seems that Samsung wants to develop a consumer device with iris recognition. This can be said because of the new patent Samsung just got.
This Samsung patent had been filed in 2014 and it refers to iris recognition as one of the ways users will be able to authenticate their identity on a smartwatch. This new smartwatch is quite similar to the current Gear lineup except for some minor differences.
Now the user’s authentication methods that have been used in this patent are referred to as Biosignal ID and authentication can occur by way of gesture which includes gestures such as opening a hand or rotating a wrist.
So now it seems that the Samsung Galaxy smartwatches are going to have this new Biosignal ID feature. Now the smartwatch in the patent doesn’t look like the Gear S as the smartwatch lacks a home button and 2 inch curved display.
However the watch in the patent could just be a diagram for drawing purposes and not the original design.
