Samsung 2014 All Phoes
Samsung makes a lot of phones, for different markets, in different price segments and also on different mobile operating systems. In fact, this year only Samsung produced 56 different smartphones. In the last three years the company has created 190 smartphones.

Samsung is recently getting very tough competition, both in mid-segment and in the higher price range. While in mid-segment, companies like Xiaomi are grabbing Samsung’s market share, in higher segment Apple is giving pretty tough competition. As a result of this last quarter, Samsung saw a 49% drop in profit.

To regain the lost market share, Samsung is thinking to follow the “less is more” approach. Latest Wall Street Journal report suggests that Samsung is thinking to trim down its smartphone lineup by 30% in 2015. Though it looks like a big number but still after the cut Samsung will produce around 40 different phones next year. Which is way more than what other companies are offering.

Apple, Samsung’s biggest competitor is producing only two phone variants right now. Samsung’s Android competitor Motorola is also producing just 11 different phones. Samsung needs to think and trim down the smartphone lineup even more to focus better.

Samsung also need to focus on its tablet lineup. In 2014 the company added 27 different tablets to its product line. Which is way more than Apple’s 2 tablets offering.
