The galaxy S6 sales have been underwhelming for Samsung and the note 5 is a superphone that isn’t intended for everyone. This has led to lower sales of the galaxy S6 globally. But Samsung is hell bent on winning the premium smartphone segment and is considering to lower the price tag to make the phone affordable for more number of people.
apple still dominate the premium segment and is expected to ship about 80 million iPhone this quarter. It sold 13 million iphones in its first weekend of availability. Samsung also know that to beat apple at its own game, lowering the price tag isn’t enough. It wants the galaxy S7 to be at the pinnacle of the smartphone technology. IPhone currently has the 3d touch, a strong protective ion glass, apple pay and a best in class finger print reader for security purposes.
To combat this, Samsung is fitting the galaxy S7 with the 3d touch like technology from synaptic and will also provide the best camera we have ever seen. A 12 MP shooter with ½” sensor. The Korean company might be having some troubles with the snapdragon 820 but it is fixing the issue.
All markets aren’t same and a single device will not win every market, so Samsung is preparing about 3 to 4 variants of the galaxy S7. The u.s and Chinese market will receive the snapdragon version and the international version of s7 will have the exynos version. Upcoming markets such as the Indian and African market will have a slightly low powered handset as the 4g networks are still in an infant stage in those markets.
While a reduced price tag will certainly help Samsung in selling more number of units, making the galaxy s7as tech savvy as possible will be the real litmus test for Samsung.
