The Galaxy S6 was a good phone but it failed to ignite the sales engine for Samsung. That will not be the case with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Reports inform that Samsung has sold more than 10 million units and that too in the month of march. Samsung is overwhelmed by the response for its latest flagship and the sales are above expectation.
At a time when the smartphone sales have been free-falling, especially in the high-end segment, Samsung managed such a feat thanks to the excellent sales strategy and return of features such as expandable storage and water resistance in the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
We may not have an accurate sales figures but according to Jay Yoo, industry analyst at Korea Investment & Securities, the Korean tech giant has crossed the sales target of 7 million phone comfortably and might have sold as many as 9.5 million phones in the period of march. That’s a record, even by Samsung’s standards.
Experts point out that Samsung could manage such as feat since it listened to the customers and used the valuable feedback in changing the design of Galaxy S6 to suit the real world much better. For example, the Galaxy S6 edge was a nightmare to use since the sharp metal edge made it very uncomfortable while gripping the phone.
Samsung changed the back cover and edge structuring to smooth curved glass and the result is that the Galaxy S7 edge feels very natural in the hand. Samsung carried over the Galaxy S6 design over to the Galaxy S7. But that is not necessarily a bad thing as the S6 family looked stunning with all their glass and metal. Yet the subtle difference seems to have done the trick for Samsung. The lack of redesigning the smartphone also saved a lot of R&D cost to Samsung that will likely boost the profits this quarter.
This is a combined sales figure for the S7 and S7 edge.
