Samsung SDI, a sister company of Samsung that focuses on making better battery for the electronic devices and automotive has developed a breakthrough battery that can make an ebike run for 100 km on a single charge.

Unlike other batteries that have been theoretically promising but practically impossible to mass produce, the new Samsung battery will be a practical one the can be placed in a compatible ebike. Samsung sees a vision where the diesel cars and trucks are replaced by electric vehicles and rail cars as the alternate form of transportation. With the decrease in oil reserves of the world, Samsung wants to lead the way in developing this alternate form of transportation.

“The main means of transportation will change the focus on e-bikes or rail cars as consumers have a preference to use them when they make short trips,” said Seo, Samsung representative, adding the demand for e-bikes in Europe and China remains solid. “The electric bicycle has become a perfect substitute for eco-friendly transportation. Samsung’s ability to quickly catch up with growing demand for large-sized battery packs will create more market demand as it helps dramatically increase e-bikes’ travel distance.”

The battery has a slim profile with a capacity of 500 watt-hour with the company’s pack-making technology

The battery was unveiled in Germany as a part of euro bike expo 2015.
