Semiconductors are the essence of all the smart devices around us. Ranging from computers to microwaves, all of them are dependent on some sort of semiconductor. So if you wish to see which electronics company is leading or lagging in its business, then just take a look at its consumption of semiconductors.
If we take a look at the last year’s semiconductor sales while keeping all this in mind, we would see a market trend. We shall see which company is producing what number of devices.
According to the data from 2014, it’s quite clear that Samsung was the biggest buyer of semiconductors in the world. Samsung bought $32 Billion worth of semiconductors; well, that seems quite large doesn’t it? This $32 billion comprised nearly of 10% of the world’s semiconductor sales. Following Samsung, it’s Apple on the second number. Apple spent nearly $26 Billion on semiconductor which was 7.6% of the world’s semiconductor sales.
In terms of increase in the market share, Apple is quite ahead of Samsung. Apple’s purchases grew by nearly 10% which is twice that of Samsung. This thing makes it clear that Apple is trying hard to win back its lost position in the smartphone market.
